The
first season of Suits debuted on 23 June, 2011 which consists of 12 episodes.
The drama follows Mike Ross, a brilliant college dropout, and Harvey Specter,
the best closer of the New York City. At
the start of the show, Mike Ross (Patrick J Adams) uses his eidetic memory to
make a living by taking LSATs for others. When he needs extra 25,000 bucks to
keep his granny in a private nursing home, he agrees on a “one-time deal” to
deliver marijuana for his friend Trevor. However, Mike realizes that it was a
setup and narrowly escapes. After the deal gone wrong, Mike narrowly escapes
the police by accidently sitting for an interview with Harvey Specter, a
Senior Partner at Pearson Hardman – a law firm that only hires Harvard Law
School graduates. Mike impresses Harvey with his spontaneity, encyclopedic
knowledge of law and is hired as his associate. Only Harvey and his secretary
Donna Paulsen (Sarah Rafferty) know Mike’s secret.
The
show follows Harvey and Mike as they try to solve cases together. With the
passage of time a bond of loyalty and trust develops between them and they know
they have each other’s back. Although, Harvey pretends he doesn’t care about
anyone, but he cares a lot for those closest to him especially Mike and Donna.
He really wants to see Mike succeed and gives him advice whenever Mike is
struggling to keep pace with his fast moving life.
Unlike
many shows, Suits show the bright and the lighter side of the NYC. It shows
billionaires who sign multimillion dollar deals at breakfast. The Central Park,
Wall Street and Midtown reinforce the idea of the wealthier side of the NYC.
The
best thing about Suits is the music and the characters. They are absolutely
fantastic. Gabriel Macht totally pulls off Harvey. Whether it is instructing
Mike, charming a lady, defeating another lawyer or being a badass, he nails it.
Rick Hoffman is another person who steals the show as Louis Litt. He wants to
be everything Harvey is and is therefore jealous of. He is the one character
that we love, hate and feel sorry for at the same time. Gina Torres as Jessica
Pearson portrays the image of dominating woman who is in power. She is tactical
and looks has the qualities of a leader.
